Welcome Home, Asher! | Nebraska Newborn Photographer

After photographing C&D's maternity photos in the studio earlier this spring, I was so excited to be able to meet sweet baby Asher and take his newborn photographs at home. The weather that day was so strange—we started out with full sun, and by the time we ended, it was almost completely black skies and raining. As you'll notice as you browse through the gallery, it added to the moody vibe of Asher's newborn photos!

C & D's home is absolutely beautiful and so cozy—every detail is considered throughout their home. We photographed in their sun-drenched family room (note their two pups who were also in the photos!), as well as in Asher's nursery—D painted the mountain mural himself—and the primary bedroom. At the end of our session, when the storm rolled in and we started losing light, we also photographed Asher in their lovely dining room. You can make beautiful portraits wherever you can find a good light source!

I'm often asked my thoughts on photographing in the Emily Nix Photography Studio in Seward, Nebraska, vs. photographing on location or in your home. I advise my clients to decide what feels most like them.

Here are some questions to consider when you're deciding between in-studio and in-home newborn photos:

  • Do you feel comfortable having a photographer in your home soon after giving birth?
  • Will a "messy" home make you feel chaotic when preparing for photos?
  • Does your home have ample natural light to photograph in?
  • Do you love your interiors? (This may sound like a funny question, but if you don't love your home, you may want to use the studio instead!)
  • Is the baby's nursery finished yet?

I love both in-home and in-studio sessions, and I'm happy to consult with my clients and give an expert perspective on which location might be right for your family and newborn photo sessions in Omaha, Lincoln, Seward, and greater Nebraska.

As always, what's most important is what you want your newborn and family portraits to feel like.

The goal of Emily Nix Photography is to provide an experience that is stress-free, joyful, and illustrates exactly what your newborn experience is like. This includes complete client closet access for my newborn and First Year Collective clients. The client closet includes knotted gowns, swaddles, headbands, and other outfits and accessories for newborns, as well as photo-ready outfits for children up to size 5T, and dresses for mamas in various styles and sizes.
