Alison and Chase's Valentine's Day maternity photo session started out warm and toasty in the bright, beautiful second story of their downtown Seward, Nebraska, building—they are owners of Seward's Red Path Gallery! We spent the sunniest February morning taking their photos; isn't the natural light and hundred-year-old brick in this space just unbelievable?! I was in love! One of my favorite details Alison brought along was their pregnancy announcement, which is a perfect nod to their passion for art, wine, and craft beer (which is on display at Red Path!).
As soon as we were finished shooting inside, we stepped into the winter wonderland that is Seward, Nebraska, in the winter—and into subzero temperatures! Thankfully, Alison came prepared in a stunning vintage fur coat (all the heart eyes!). Despite the freezing temperatures, Alison and Chase's maternity photos in the snow turned out absolutely fabulously! There's nothing like a snowy backdrop to highlight the subjects. The outdoor part of Alison's maternity shoot will always be one of my favorite (and shortest) maternity sessions.
Just a few days after our Seward maternity photo shoot, Alison and Chase welcomed their beautiful baby girl! You can see sweet Lena's newborn in-home photo session here.
A Few Takeaways...
- Yes, you can take maternity photos (or any photos!) in the winter—even in the snow! Just dress appropriately... vintage fur is always a good idea. :)
- Sometimes, shooting in two locations, like in studio and on location, is the best option. My clients are always able to take advantage of my natural light studio in Seward, Nebraska, as well as in whatever places mean the most to you.
