Luke at 7 Months
Oh, Luke—you are just the most adorable seven-month-old baby boy! I had the privilege of taking Luke's Fresh 48 (in hospital) photos as well as doing an in-home newborn session with him and his sweet family. So, of course, I was so excited to see how much this cutie had grown and have him in the studio for his sitter session at seven months.
When should you do milestone photos for babies?
I suggest doing milestone sessions at around six months olde and around nine months old, as babies change and grow rapidly from six months to a year!
Six month sessions are wonderful because babies aren't quite mobile yet, and they aren't afraid of strangers, either—typically, we get a lot of sweet smiles at my six(ish) month sessions.
By nine months, some babies are crawling, some are pulling up, and their little personalities are really starting to pop. These sessions are super sweet and typically a lot of fun, because babies are more mobile, babbling, and have a lot of sweet and silly expressions.
At one year, you should absolutely photograph your baby! I love having cake smash sessions in the studio, and I always suggest parents bring at least two neutral, classic outfits that we can photograph baby in before letting them eat cake. First year sessions are a delightful end to your baby's first 12 months—we always get details of hair, feet, hands, eyes, and other features, but we also let baby lead the session and get smiles, stares, and a glimpse into your sweet little one's personality.
What if I miss a specific "month" mark for a photo session?
Don't worry about it at all! In fact, month milestone timelines are just a guideline. If you love a specific stage of your smiley baby at four months, seven months, and ten months, let's take photos then! In fact, one thing I love as a photographer is hearing from my clients who tell me they want milestone photos of their baby at a certain stage because they love it so much. It's so rewarding to get to capture these fleeting moments!
Should we do our milestone session indoors or outdoors?
Again, this is completely up to you! I will always suggest you keep your baby's comfort level at the top of your mind—if baby is too cold or uncomfortable, or if it's windy, etc., you won't have as good of an experience at your session. Late spring, summer, and fall are always wonderful times for outdoor sessions.
Indoor sessions (like this one at my downtown Seward, Nebraska, studio) can be done any time of year—whether it's 0 degrees or 100!

My studio in downtown Seward, Nebraska, is always available for your shoot—whether a newborn shoot, maternity shoot, milestone shoot, engagement or bridal shoot, or a branding session.
