Omaha In-Home Newborn Session At Three Months
When it comes to newborn photography, many of us assume the best (or only) time to schedule a session is within the first two weeks after birth—even on my own website, I have shared that the ideal time is early in your newborn's life (simply because babies are sleepier at this time). And while the first days are certainly beautiful, let me tell you a secret: there is no wrong time for your newborn session. This was proven during a recent in-home newborn(ish) photo session with baby Wells and his loving family at their gorgeous Omaha home.
Walking in, I was immediately struck by how warm and inviting their home felt. Natural light streamed through the windows and Christmas tree lights sparkled, creating the perfect backdrop for capturing Wells and his family. This sweet baby boy had already developed a personality all his own—bright-eyed, curious, smiling, and opinionated! He melted my heart.
For me, photographing a baby at more than a couple weeks old offers a unique perspective as a photographer. At this age, your baby is more alert and expressive, which allows me to capture moments that might not be possible if we were to photograph during the sleepier newborn phase.
From wide-eyed wonder to adorable interactions with his brother, every frame from this session told a story of connection and love. One of my favorite moments from this session was seeing how this little one’s older brother doted on him. I think the stair photos are my favorite—these two already have an undeniable bond, and capturing their candid moments together was pure magic.
Another aspect I loved about this family's photo session? Photographing them in their home. The beauty of an in-home photo session is how it allows families to feel relaxed and comfortable in their own space. There’s something so special about documenting life as it truly is, and for this session, we photographed in the cozy nursery, the living room (specifically their favorite chair), and the den—all the places that make their house their family's home.
I hope these are moments this family will look back and cherish years from now.
